Scholarships: Why? Self-Esteem Boost thats why!!!

This is an unusual way to announce and present my first ever blogging moment in time. However, the amount of writing and buffing I have done in the last 24 hours has really inspired me to kick start this page. I created it about a month ago, but haven’t really come up with anything worth publishing. When I stop and think about it, I think that bloggers are somewhat shallow and self indulging. I mean… who are we to think that we can sit down and write about anything and everything and other people will care to read it? Guess we’re gonna find out.

I feel like I did a good job of letting everyone in the Facebook/Instagram world know that this past summer I was accepted into the University of Oklahoma! <<Que “BOOMER SOONER” chant>> I knew going to school was going to be expensive. I see the monthly emails showing how much interest I have accumulated on my loans for my AA degree; its depressing quite honestly. Regardless, school isn’t an option, its mandatory in my opinion. If you want better, then do better things with your life! I did some research on different scholarship opportunities after getting my first “estimated costs for tuition and fee’s” (side note: those fee’s are ridiculous). Its an incredibly long and draining process… and sometimes you really have to weigh in your pro’s and cons. For example: Is the two page essay I spent half a day writing really worth the $250.00 grant I submitted it for? You decide… my stance is obvious seeing as how I wrote the essay. If I get it, it will pay for at least one book. See! Theres always a bright side.

Truthfully, I don’t think its about being granted the scholarship… thats a lie! I want the fricken money! In all honesty writing the essays really gave me a chance to reflect back on where I was 5 to 10 years ago and where I am today. I have a college degree and I’m working towards my second then moving onto my third. I think back on all the different events that took place while I earned that degree; working, deployments, having a baby, vacations, moving across country, and even surviving a tornado. Five years ago my only worry was buying a new top for the club I was going to that weekend. The club I would go to, to make a complete fool of myself might I add. I’m not saying you should frequently reminisce on your life and then praise yourself, but every now and then it might actually do you some good. It’s a lot harder then you think (than I ever thought) to write about yourself, and highlight your characteristics which make you worthy of free money. If nothing else, maybe it could be used as a coping mechanism on a bad day? Screw up on a big task at work? Oh, wait, before you beat yourself up! Remember that one time you conquered life?

“The strongest factor for success is self-esteem: Believing you can do it, believing you deserve it, believing you will get it”
