A Drunk Guy Walks into a House…

A drunk guy walks into a stranger’s house and gets shot, and people are in shock. A 36-year old intoxicated male belligerently intrudes through the front door of a stranger’s home. The homeowner gave a verbal warning, stating “I have a gun. Safety’s on, but if you don’t go out the door, safety won’t be on.” The homeowner shot the intruder who was taken to the hospital and later died.

I know, this doesn’t sound like breaking news at first glance, it didn’t to me either. Then I saw this video and the response of the mother to the deceased male. I was standing in my kitchen saying “what in the actual hell?”

The mother doesn’t understand why the homeowner would shoot her son? Why didn’t he call the police and wait for their response and assistance, she asks?

A stranger makes his way into your home aggressively, refuses to leave after a verbal warning, and you can’t understand why a homeowner in his own right, used lethal means for self-defense?

I work in the mental health field – with kids. I’d like to think that I’ve heard and seen a lot. But this…blew my mind. I’m 110% Pro-Second Amendment, and while the outcome was fatal, this is exactly why citizens are allowed and choose to bear arms in their home. It’s not the fault of the homeowner for not taking into consideration this man was highly intoxicated.

Should bank tellers give attempted robbers a full physical and verbal assessment before pushing the little red button under their desk? Why wouldn’t they just call the police and wait for their help?

If it’s between protecting my children or pointing and shooting a 12 gauge at an intruder, then take a seat cupcake, you aren’t going to walk out of my house unscathed.

I have chronic bitch face and I’m ok with that. My love language is Amazon Prime. I have two kids that are pretty awesome. There’s this tall guy thats been hanging around since the 10th grade so I told him I loved him and married him - He wears camo for a living, and I dig that! I really love school. Its true! I get passionate about things quickly then write about it here. I started this blog about a year ago and last summer I started freelancing on the side for a few different organizations. I got a handful of opportunities to be a guest blogger for some parenting sites in the U.K. and since then, I've been trying to build my audience. I can assure you this isn't just another "mom blog." I'm opinionated, I cuss a little (a lot), and I like booze so hopefully that entices you to take a look. I'm also a military Spouse and politics run deep in my home. I work full time with youth and adolescents that face severe and complex mental health issues. And lastly, I'm a full time student working on my Masters in substance abuse/mental health prevention science. BOOMER! Put all of that in one bag and you'll understand why I drink and love a good convo! Check out my work from over the last year, I can promise you there is something for everyone.

  1. I’m sorry but people need to take responsibility for their actions. I would have done the exact same thing as the homeowner, and this is why I have a gun. Because in the time it takes to try to ascertain if an intruder is dangerous, you’ll more than likely be hurt/killed…I’m not taking that chnace with my son in the house.

  2. I agree with you. I have one neighbor home full of big kids on parole, in and out of jail. They keep things to themselves, so the rest of the neighbors leave them alone. If someone knock on my door, I answer through the door or look out from the window to see who that is. Even if I open the door, I leave the chain on. We didn’t have to do that before. We do have things around the house to defend ourselves.
Hi, met you from Jason’s M&G, I’m retired and I do volunteer counseling, plus a lot of things that retirees do. I follow your blog, I find it interesting, and would like to invite you to visit my blog at,

  3. I’m with you both! But I think that’s also the point… victims aren’t victims anymore. It’s the offenders that somehow manage to capture the attention and twist situations to (try) and make people feel sorry for them. Of course it’s unfortunate but this was literally a deadly mistake!

  4. I found your blog through Opinionated Man, so nice meeting you. I wanted to say that I do agree that if someone enters my home I would likely defend myself. Though, I agree with Nicole and would equally be scarred after the incident. Great post and nice to virally meet you! 🙂

  5. I’m totally with you. Not to say I wouldn’t be scarred for life after taking a life but it’s my home, you broke in, YOU didn’t leave, YOU were being aggressive. I would do anything I had to to make it out alive. I do always wonder… Why not shoot in the leg or somewhere that probably wouldn’t kill him? On second thought, I cannot judge as I have not been in such a situation! I’d be willing to bet that adrenaline takes over. Great post! I’ve subscribed
